Royal Highland Showcase ’21 – Beef Cattle

Numbers may have been fewer, but the quality on show matched the usual Ingliston standard, over the two days of beef cattle judging at the Royal Highland Showcase. Exhibitors were delighted with a rare chance to show off their stock in the current climate, and the opportunity to see some familiar faces in the show-ring.

The inter-breeds were judged on a points system between all the breed judges and on day one, it was the turn of the native breeds. Coming out top, was the Hereford champion, Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks, an SMH Kingsize 87K son from Tom and Dy Harrison. He stood ahead of John and Ann Finlay’s Galloway cow, Blackcraig Dora May, which finished up reserve overall.

The native pairs title went to the Angus duo – Weeton Blackbird V519 from Brailes Livestock and Donald Rankin’s Kilmaluag Lord Blackbeauty W288. Reserve pair were the Herefords, with the overall champion, Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks, teaming up with Moralee 1 Pippa KS S11.

The Limousin and Charolais breeds dominated day two’s continental inter-breed, with Robert Graham’s home-bred Limousin heifer, Grahams Precious, leading the way, ahead of the privately-bought Charolais bull, Maerdy Morwr, shown by Andrew and James Reid, of ARJ Farms.

Maerdy Morwr teamed up with the Barclays’ home-bred cow, Harestone Mammamia, to take the overall pairs title, with the Limousin two, Grahams Precious and Dougie McBeath and Sarah Jane Jessop’s bull, Springsett President, securing reserve.

Below are pictures of the champion and reserve winners in each section. To view the full selection of photographs taken, head to our Photo Sales.
