Highland
Basis of Highland cattle in the Czech Republic was importation of heifers from the country of origin - Scotland - in 1991. Afterwards some other heifers were imported from Germany, France, Austria and also from Liechtenstein. In early 90´s embryos from Canada were imported too. Unmistakable look and different colour types supported interest in this breed. Highland cattle is reared on several farms which average size is relatively small - 10 cow per herd. Limited breeding base give raise to inbreeding and difficulties to select outcross bulls. In order to solve the problem, in 2003 several unrelated animals were imported from Germany.
