Charolais
Charolais is now the most important beef breed in the Czech Republic. Roughly 20 % of all beef cows are Charolais cows and their crossbreds. The first imports have been realised in 1990 from Hungary. Afterwards a lot of heifers were bought in France and in 1992 also from Canada (polled Charolais). Outstanding meat performance and growth abilities are the main factors why Charolais cattle is so popular among Czech breeders. Since its introduction, the main tool for genetic progress is usage of insemination doses of the best proven Charolais sires from France.
